Definition
A satoshi (or sat) is the smallest unit of Bitcoin, equal to 0.00000001 BTC (one hundred-millionth of a Bitcoin). It is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin's anonymous creator. Satoshis are the unit of account on the Lightning Network and are essential for micropayments. A treasury company's BTC-per-share figure can be expressed in satoshis per share when the ratio is very small.
