When Standard 21 was established with Bitcoin as its primary strategic reserve asset, many in the Spanish business world raised their eyebrows. A Spanish company, with its treasury denominated in Bitcoin from day zero. Not in fixed-income funds, not in IBEX stocks, not in real estate. In Bitcoin.

The company's name is no accident. "Standard 21" references the Bitcoin standard, in the same vein as the gold standard of the 20th century. The company believes Bitcoin is the monetary standard of the 21st century, and that companies which understand it sooner will have a durable competitive advantage.

The most natural comparison is with Strategy in the United States or Metaplanet in Japan. But there's an important structural difference: Standard 21 is not a software company that pivoted to Bitcoin (like Strategy) nor a hotel company that reinvented itself (like Metaplanet). It is a Bitcoin-native corporate treasury: born specifically to be one, with no prior operating business to abandon nor an inherited balance sheet to divest.

Standard 21 is currently private and does not publicly disclose its treasury metrics. What is public is the thesis: to be the Spanish-speaking reference point for the category, in a market where the vast majority of the world's Bitcoin treasuries were born with another purpose and pivoted later. For a Spanish company, positioning itself from the outset as a native treasury is an unprecedented milestone.

Standard 21's model combines Bitcoin accumulation with building ecosystem infrastructure. SatsIntel, the platform you're reading, is one of those projects: an intelligence tool for Bitcoin treasury investors that places Standard 21 at the center of the global conversation about this new kind of company, and especially in the Spanish-speaking world, where serious editorial coverage of the category barely existed.

Spain has a unique opportunity in the European corporate Bitcoin ecosystem. The European Union's regulatory framework (MiCA, in force since 2024) has created a more predictable environment for companies operating with digital assets. Standard 21's position as the Spanish reference could attract European institutional capital seeking corporate Bitcoin exposure without depending on American or Japanese companies.

The path is not easy. The Spanish financial market is conservative, and institutional Bitcoin adoption in Europe lags the United States. But timing matters: the companies that build a position now, while the market still doesn't fully understand the asset, will be the ones that lead when mass adoption arrives.

What makes Standard 21 special is not just where it holds its treasury. It's the thesis it defends: that Spanish-speaking capital can and should participate in the transition toward a monetary system based on verifiable scarcity. That you don't have to be American or Japanese to play in this league. Read more in About Standard 21.
